Donations will support families of military service members disabled or killed in the line of duty

(Plymouth, IN) – Swan Lake Resort invites all area golfers to its Inaugural Patriot Golf Day Outing on July 6, 2013. All proceeds of this 18-hole outing will benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military servicemen and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation. Enter as an individual or get a foursome together!  For $100 per player, participants get a day of great golf on the Silver Course at Swan Lake, followed by dinner and live entertainment in the Gallery. Raffles and silent auction items will also be available, and a color guard ceremony and a special tribute to veterans will celebrate their service. Event sponsors are also encouraged to participate. Suggested sponsorship opportunities begin at the $75 Patriot level and top off at the $600 Medal of Honor level. “This is a great way for the golf industry to help the families of those who have lost their lives or have been injured so that we may have our freedom,” said Chad Hutsell, Head Golf Professional at Swan Lake Resort.  “It’s a wonderful opportunity for golfers in our community to give back to those who have given everything.” Major Dan Rooney, an F-16 Fighter Pilot, PGA Professional and USGA member, founded Folds of Honor in 2007. A decorated military pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, Major Rooney served 3 combat tours in Iraq. After his 2nd tour, while a passenger on a commercial flight, Major Rooney witnessed an event that changed his life. When the plane had reached its destination, the pilot announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, we have an American hero on board – Corporal Brock Bucklin. And his twin brother, Corporal Brad Bucklin, is accompanying him home from Iraq. As a sign of respect, please remain seated while Corporal Bucklin’s family receives him in his final homecoming.” Major Rooney watched through the window of the plane as the flag-draped casket was lowered. He saw a family waiting for Brock, and a little four-year old boy waiting for his father. This tragic homecoming inspired Major Rooney to create the Folds of Honor Foundation. The Folds of Honor Foundation provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled in the line of duty. Patriot Golf Day is the flagship fundraiser for the Folds of Honor Foundation and is jointly supported by PGA of America and the United States Golf Association. In the last 6 years, PGA Professionals have helped raise more than $8.6 million by hosting Patriot Golf Day events at their facilities. Individuals and companies interested in contributing to the Folds of Honor Foundation and those applying for scholarships should visit Patriot Day is just one of many fun golf events happening at Swan Lake Resort this summer. Autumn Leed Performs at Swan Lake Resort on June 7th

Posted on May 7, 2013 by Swan Lake Resorts

Born a leap year baby, Autumn Leed grew up in the small town of Plymouth, Indiana. She is one of eight children raised on a strawberry farm. She realized at a very early age that she wanted to grow up to be a professional singer. Her first paid performance was at the age of seven, when her mothers’ friends paid her fifty cents to sing for them. Later she studied classical and Broadway music along with vocal lessons for 7 years. Autumn was always involved in school musicals and had the leading roles during her junior & senior years. She played Mary in Little Mary Sunshine and Hansel in Hansel & Gretel. She always earned first place medals at her local solo & ensemble competitions, leading her to state level every year. She never disappointed & brought home 1st place every time. During high school, Autumn was in a couple rock-n-roll bands that her parents had to accompany her to due to being under age. While this was a great learning experience, it was short lived. Her vocal instructor deeply frowned on “screaming” music while trying to perfect the art of her classical voice. She decided to follow that sound advice from her instructor as well as her parents. After high school Autumns sights were set on Nashville, Tennessee. Her first offer came from Robert Metzgar, who was with Capitol Management. Unfortunately it always came down to money & had to turn down the offer due to insufficient funding to launch such a project. She later signed in 1994 with Holton Music in Nashville where she cut two singles. “If Wishes Came True” & “I Owe it All to You” were pitched to local radio & national stations. These charted on the independent charts, just a few slots below country artist, Dan Seals. This of course was very exciting to Autumn & thought “I’m on my way”. However this deal ended abruptly due to the untimely illness of her producer, Harvey Turner. Harvey left Nashville for Florida to recover & eventually retire. There is no denying her unique, strong, yet sweet vocals. Music City’s well known & respected Carson Chamberlain reviewed her at a country music expo. After her showcase, he compared her to vocals to Dolly Parton, Pam Tillis, Vince Gill, & Willie Nelson for her unique vocals. He told her “your vocals are so unique that people will love you or hate you…..and I love you!” Her parents and her sister gave her the encouragement to continue on and follow her dreams. Some others that have influenced her as well are Patsy Cline, Whitney Houston, Marie Osmond, Judy Garland, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Faith Hill, and Celine Dion for their talents. And no one has impressed Autumn more for her stage presence than Reba McEntire. Autumn has been called many different names such as Eli Mae, Rebecca from Sunnybrook farm, Grace, Sis, and Farm Girl. She is able to consume all of these different sides of herself & blend them beautifully into each & every song she performs to make it part of who she is. Although she has a wide spectrum of vocal styles, she knows exactly who she is and where her heart lays….with country music.

Duke Tumatoe Returns to SLR for Outdoor Concert on June 1st

Posted on May 2, 2013 by Swan Lake Resorts

June 1st, performing at Swan Lake Resort outdoors on the Pro Shop Deck, Chicago-born Duke Tumatoe is a musician/showman who has retained a firm career by fusing gritty R&B, rock, blues, and funk injected with equal parts humor and gut-level sincerity. Tumatoe was a founding member of what would become REO Speedwagon. His tenure with that band was short-lived, leaving in 1969 and forming Duke Tumatoe & the All-Star Frogs. For the next 13 years, they toured relentlessly playing throughout the Midwest on countless collegecampuses and bars. Because of this grueling tour schedule, the band managed to release two albums, Red Pepper Hot! (1976) and Back to Chicago (1982). In 1983, Tumatoe decided to slow down the pace and break up the Frogs. He immediately rebounded with the creation of the Power Trio, who recorded Duke's Up for Blind Pig Records. Tumatoe took advantage of the more flexible schedule and formed his own record label, Sweetfinger Music. Over the next several years,Tumatoe released four discs on his label, Dr. Duke (1992), Wild Animals (1994), Greatest Hits Plus (1996), and the all-instrumental Picks & Sticks (1997). Throughout his illustrious career, Tumatoe opened for several legendary figures in blues and rock, including Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, George Thorogood, Fabulous Thunderbirds, and John Fogerty. Fogerty was so taken with Tumatoe's performance, he produced the critically acclaimed 1988 live album I Like My Job! on Warner Bros. In 1999, Tumatoe signed with the J-Bird label, which released A Ejukatid Man that same year. In 2001, Tumatoe had tongue firmly in cheek with the releases Pompous & Overrated and the raunchy seasonal disc It's Christmas (Let's Have Sex). Duke Tumatoe & the Power Trio appeared from Sweetfinger Records in 2003, followed by 2006's You've Got the Problem! on Blind Pig Records. In November 2010, Duke released his newest album, "I Just Want to Be Rich."
